Morally Responsible Investing

Today, approximately 43% of Americans invest in mutual funds, to the staggering sum of 6+ TRILLION dollars (US).  This is hard-earned money that people have put away for a new home, for retirement, for the education of their children-for any number of reasons.  They are sacrificing today for a better tomorrow.

Yet, while these investments are making a better future for Americans...
...are they making a better future for America?

The Sad Truth

The vast majority of Americans are unaware that their money, in the form of mutual funds, is largely responsible for pouring BILLIONS of dollars into abortion, pornography, anti-family entertainment and the promotion of non-marital lifestyles.  How is this possible? Simply put, fund managers invest their fund's money into companies that, in turn, either directly propagate these evils or fund organizations that do.  Fund managers often do not ask about a company's support for these evils when investing; their primary concern is to maximize profitability.  Frankly, evil is often quite profitable-in the short term!  Some might protest that not EVERYONE invests without regard to social issues.  This is quite true: many individuals and organizations choose to place their money in "socially responsible" mutual funds, in the heart-felt hope that their actions will benefit not only themselves, but their communities as well.  Unfortunately, most of these funds do NOT screen for companies that profit from or support evils like abortion, pornography, anti-family entertainment or family-destructive lifestyles.  In the end, the result of our investment in these funds is exactly opposite of what we intended.  Our dreams as caring individuals are betrayed-as is our society as a whole.
Immorality is terrorism, an assault on the innocents of the human race.  It is un-American and inhuman to finance the terrorism of immorality, which threatens the infrastructure of society and human dignity.

The Solution

The time has come to awaken the sleeping giant.  This sleeping giant comes in the form of approximately 43 percent of the American public who are investing over $6 trillion in mutual funds.  People of Faith must lead the way in educating these investors that we can't have it both ways: we can't espouse a greater Good while financing the Culture of Death! It's time for American to put their money where their hearts and souls are.

The solution starts when just a few individuals join the Morally Responsible Investing movement, also known as Values-Based Investing.  The first step in this process is to examine your funds, all the mutual funds you invest in, and determine which funds profit from or support moral or cultural polluters.

The next step is to educate your Investment Advisor.  Investors should expect their investment advisor to embrace, implement and monitor their investments according to Morally Responsible criteria.

Finally, tell others!
